A Place to Worship and Grow

Whether your plans are to add-on to an existing sanctuary, construct a new steel church building, or build an activity center for your church, building projects can be challenging. Morton Buildings has constructed over 1,000 church facilities, so when you choose us to design and construct your new worship center you can be certain it will meet your congregation’s needs, style preference, and budget.

From concept to completion, Morton Buildings provides a long-lasting building for your congregation to work, play or worship in. That means we can build anything from a gymnasium to a nursery to your church’s sanctuary. Morton offers a wide variety of functional features and options to customize your house of worship. From sound-absorbing acoustical steel to exterior siding options like steel, brick and stone, your Morton building can be customized to fit your congregation’s needs. Many churches choose Morton’s exclusive Energy Performer® insulation package, an industry leading insulation option that saves on the operating costs of your facility year-round.

Custom Church Buildings for Any Purpose

Our buildings include large clear-spans that allow for open, adaptable floor plans unhindered by load-bearing walls or columns, achieving a unique design and aesthetic. Our church-related designs will allow you to customize the space of your building to enhance traffic flow, lighting, and use. Today’s multi-purpose church facilities may include youth and children’s ministry spaces, gathering areas, education wings, worship centers, and childcare additions.

Adding to or constructing a new activity center is an exciting time for your congregation. The space can be used for virtually any event or function and provides another place for fellowship. You have probably already thought about what your new building will be used for, but it is also important to consider the amount of space you have and the best use of it.

Your Morton design team can help you determine the building size that would best be suited for a gymnasium, classrooms, fellowship hall, cry room, kitchen or a combination of uses to create a multifunctional addition to your church.

The components used to finish the interior of your activity center are also important. From the type of flooring available, including wood, tile, carpet or synthetic to the wall finish, consideration should be given to the aesthetics and the functionality of the space. Morton’s acoustical steel is just one example of a low-maintenance, functional interior option for your activity center.

During the planning process, there are many elements to consider for your sanctuary or activity center. While Morton Buildings does not directly manufacture these components, we can work with skilled craftsmen who can provide these important features to complete your building.

Additional Features for Your Sanctuary or Activity Center:

  • Fiberglass or aluminum steeples
  • Upholstered or all-wood pews
  • Lighting
  • Fiberglass, aluminum, or wood wall crosses with optional backlighting
  • Sanctuary seating
  • Organ, pianos, amplifiers, mixers, and speakers
  • Fiberglass baptisteries with automatic controls
  • Signage
  • Sports and playground equipment
  • Faceted or lead-stained glass
  • Chancel furniture
  • Nursery furniture

In addition to constructing new activity centers and sanctuaries, Morton Buildings can also retrofit or construct an addition for your existing metal church building. Adding onto an existing building is oftentimes more challenging than starting with a new building because restrictions are already dictated by the existing building. There are also other factors that are important to consider like the flow of traffic in and around the building once the addition is completed. Because these details can be challenging, it is important to work closely with an experienced company, like Morton, to complete your addition.

Benefits of a Morton Worship Facility

Unlike metal church buildings, Morton Buildings’ secret to energy efficiency lies within the post-frame walls and ceiling. Wide blankets of insulation can be used in the walls versus short rolls found in most standard stud wall construction. This results in a true R-19 or greater thermal rating in the sidewalls. The truss heels in your facility also allow for full depth, blown-in insulation with a rating of R-38 or greater, while still maintaining attic ventilation.

This unique structural concept allows plumbing, electrical and HVAC to be placed between the insulation and the finished wall or ceiling, when using a suspended ceiling. This configuration results in no penetration of the insulation and an increase in energy efficiency and overall insulation performance.

Many of the worship facilities we’ve built include Morton’s exclusive Energy Performer insulation package. It was created in the 1970s and continues to outperform other systems on the market. Buildings that include our exclusive Energy Performer insulation system typically exceed state building codes for energy efficiency. With Energy Performer you not only conserve energy, you save money on your heating and cooling costs year-round.

Morton Buildings is one of the largest, most established builders in the United States. Each construction center works closely with Morton’s corporate office in Morton, Illinois, to ensure all of our buildings meet strict standards for quality and craftsmanship. Morton produces building components at six, company-owned manufacturing plants. The Morton Buildings name is synonymous with quality and longevity and we strive to continue that tradition every day.

Unlike other companies, our process is truly unique due to our vertical integration:

  • Morton controls more of the design and construction process
  • Many materials are manufactured in our plants
  • Building components are shipped to the jobsite using our fleet
  • Construction is executed by our construction crews

Churches and Activity Centers:

Working with Morton

Planning for a new church or activity center can be difficult. As a building committee, you are tasked with keeping the best interest of the entire congregation in mind. Your sales consultant will listen to you congregation’s ideas and work with your building committee to assess how your building is currently being used and what you would like to achieve with an addition. In a retrofit, engineers and architects are vital to ensure your facility is structurally sound and meets existing codes for your area. Because Morton Buildings works with our affiliates, Allied Design and Engineering, P.C., we can oversee every aspect of your project.

Morton can serve as the general contractor for your church construction project, taking the hassle of managing tradesmen out of your hands. Morton works with only qualified contractors that have proven their commitment to the same level of quality and customer satisfaction Morton prides itself in.
