New Steel Paint Color for 2020: Woodgrain Cedar

July 27, 2020

We’re excited to showcase a new color option that has been added to the Morton Buildings’ family of colors—Woodgrain Cedar!

The “woodgrain” is achieved with the same technology/methods and pattern as Weathered Gray, just using different colors. During the final stages of the coil coating process, a laser-engraved chrome roller transfers a thin layer of a darker PVDF paint onto the coil in a pattern, which gives the steel its unique weathered/woodgrain appearance. Because the paint is applied to the steel coil with a roller, the pattern does repeat approximately every 30 inches. This pattern is carefully engineered to reduce any appearance of repetition.

Woodgrain Cedar is ideal for walls, as our 12” on-center Hi-Rib pattern provides a pseudo-board-and-batten look. This color brings to the market a maintenance-free alternative to wood siding. Woodgrain Cedar may be used for any steel panel or steel trim which Morton produces, including downspouts. It can even be used on the interior.

Several colors work well with Woodgrain Cedar, including White, Evergreen, Brown, and Rustic Bronze. It works well with brick or masonry wainscot, too.
