Surviving the Storm

May 6, 2014

Massive storms with tornadoes recently swept through the southeast part of the country.  One storm in particular hit near the city of Birmingham, AL and did some serious damage to homes and other buildings.  Morton has always had a reputation of constructing buildings that last and can weather the storm.  A common misconception is that steel framing is inherently stronger than wood framing.  Check out these pictures below that tell a different story.

As you can see, the wood framing and steel panels of the Morton building had no major damage. Overall strength of a building comes down to engineering, quality materials and craftsmanship.   Our buildings are built to last and are designed and engineered to meet and in many cases exceed local codes.  We are the only company to provide protection against tornadoes with a 5 year wind load warranty with no velocity limit.
