Decatur Animal Clinic is a family-owned veterinary clinic in Decatur, Ill., about 40 miles east of the state capital in Springfield. The business has served the central Illinois town of approximately 75,000 residents for more than six decades.
With its previous facility aging shortly after the turn of the century, the full-service clinic decided a new home was in order.
Morton Buildings was up to the task of providing that new home, erecting a 6,000-square-foot facility that was finished late in 2006.
“We were looking at options when we were building the clinic and trying to decide which was going to suit us best,” said Dr. Alec Messamore, the 1997 University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine graduate who procured the practice from his father in 2013. “Who could build it, who could put it up economically – something versatile. (Morton) seemed to fit the bill.”
Prior to the move, Messamore described a previous home for the clinic that was operated out of a converted house. He described the structure’s ambience as “pretty much like working in a basement.”
At 48’W x 11’H x 125’L, Messamore’s new Decatur facility from Morton features a brick exterior, non-standard fascia and Hi-Rib steel roofing. A large collection of acrylic block windows and skylights allow an extraordinary amount of natural light to enter the building. The building also features a treatment area, an operating room, boarding space, office space and an expansive waiting room that includes a children’s play area.
This project, along with hundreds of other commercial facilities built each year, is a typical product of the designBUILD staff at Morton Buildings.
Morton designBUILD is a team of experienced project managers, construction estimators, drafting technicians and construction coordinators committed to providing long-term value in custom commercial construction. With a national reach and supported by the full resources of Morton Buildings, the designBUILD team provides a trustworthy and transparent service for business owners and other proprietors looking to construct an efficient building for their business.
“The clients love it – love the building. We see (emergency cases) from other clinics, we see clients from other clinics and we get comments about how nice the building is,” Messamore said. “They like the brickwork, the vaulted ceilings in the waiting room. (They) really just like the overall feel of the place.”
“(Morton) handled all the details that a lot of other (companies) wouldn’t,” Messamore said.
Morton’s proven, low-risk design process ensures the customer is fully engaged to get the building that best suits their needs, budget and perhaps mostly importantly, their customers.
“As far as comfort of the patients, comfort of the clients, comfort of the staff – you couldn’t ask for more with the building,” Messamore concluded.
